"I’d rather have 500 devoted, hardcore fans who are active in my community and who buy from me than 5000 robots."

I couldn't agree more. Same thing goes for Twitter, LinkedIn or any other social network. Its not the quantity, but the quality. Its amazing on Twitter (I know we are talking about Facebook, so hang with me a sec), how many initially follow me, but when I see the poor quality of their content and I do not follow back, how many drop... All they seem to be looking for is the return follow so they can spam me with their get rich quick schemes.

Over time the size of the quality followers (or in Facebook's world --fans) over quantity, becomes WAY more valuable to you when it comes to conversions.
