Kevin,
thanks for the thoughtful reply. In thinking more about the specific type of blogs (topical or product/company) I think we fall right in the middle. For example the tag line for the hoodie blog (www.hoodiepeople.com/blog) is a blog about fresh hoodies and fresh people, this might be a potential weakness or a strength, the quality of the content is really going to be the key determinant.

On the product/company side what we have found is that product/brand specific posts get indexed in search very well and put us on the 1st page of many product specif searches which is awesome on the organic seo side and code provide more context about a cool hoodie then our product pages alone.

We weave into the blog lots of content from our flickr community, and about the various cool projects that our brand partners (clothing designers) are doing, like Jedidiah's various social causes.

Where we can most improve is increasing the topical focus and being more of a hub for overall hoodie culture by bloggin about other hoodie projects and new releases even if we don't stock the item.

The great thing about this medium is that its fluid and you can always try different things.

thanks again for the insight, lots of ideas percolating on our end.

we run hoodiepeople.com, an eCom site specializing in fresh hooded sweatshirts in the urban/streetwear/surf/skate markets. we blog frequently and put a lot of effort into getting fresh relevant content on the site. However most of the content is about our new products, the brands we carry, and bits of company news, wondering if we need to branch out to include more "general" hoodie news. we do our best to not be "salesy" and make the content as cool and informative as possible. our blog is hoodiepeople.com/blog - any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.
